Several methods for shooters to long distance - Observer-Reporter

Keep, run the sights or use Mil?

This question continues rearing its ugly head when I am in an Armory. Proponents of each method of fire appear to be also divided, with each lawyer being reached of rabies on the method they support.

I realize there has been a vast improvement in rifles and optics, and yet there is a question of the use of certain techniques of long distance shootout.

My reasoning on the subject is based on the knowledge accumulated for many years of filming, a reading and plain old a little logic.

When I was in my late 20s, I would come home from work, take a bite to eat, Eileen kiss on the cheek and take on the local alfalfa field. The poor woman, put in place with my goofy way of life.

More often than otherwise, my companion has a transplant of Kingsport, Tennessee, who loved to hunt the marmots.

I linked once a story about how we left a fourth of July picnic to spend a small amount of time for a marmot or two. We are carried away and remained until the dusk.

We were the two inhabitants of sofa for a week.

Over the years, I learned a lot more pork, hunting and shooting at long range. Either way, I have nothing against ousted a marmot at over 700 meters, if the shooter is to be honest with the distance.

It was then that we realized the difficulty of holding a very long shot. A few marmots, or else, no matter what game, struck by the first shot when the distance is greater than 500 meters. Your dirt of tasks of PAL flight and rough estimates how much more duration of effectiveness is required to reach the target.

Therein lies the dilemma. Just what blade of grass were you most when you shot? It seems easy to add only six inches more efficiency, but there are times when it is impossible.

To this difficulty, we spoke of our sites running.

This means to adapt to strike dead rise in distance from the target.

Here, we are confronted with the problem of the reliability of the internal motion of the scope. Remember, the scope should move back to the original point of view.

This may be a problem with multiple scopes, including many higher-priced models. This is what is called lag.

When this problem exists, adjustments in scope may not work until this that shaken by the recoil of the rifle.

Keep in mind that the lag can cause a miss, but it is also a problem in the return to the original zero. Yes, there are there areas that are 99% reliable when adjusted, but they cost as much as two or three 700 s Remington.

To test the adjustments of the scope, the shooter must simply hit the square. To do this, take a group and adjust the scope up to 16 clicks, or four inches. Now, take a group and move the same number right clicks and firing on another group. Down 16 clicks and draw on a group and then 16 left clicks and draw on a group. You should be good in the first group.

Don't forget that when you run the sights, the scope must be exactly square with the bore of the gun or scope adjustments will be non-linear. Instead of straight up and down, they move vertical and top and left or top and right. Some of this information may be of the opinion, it is a fact.

Approach more sensitive to the realization of a dead hold - on long range is the use of points of mil.

Mil points offer more a point of sight in the scope and this concept offer points long distance of the goal without scope adjustments.

Over the years, I have used three methods and concluded that the theory is one thing, but the real question is to know if it works in field conditions. Any method we use should be tested long before go. This requires a good bench rest and a lot of ammunition.

After a good, thorough shooting session, you will know that your scope tracks and fits properly. After having worked in a store and many combos sight, I can say that not many litters will perform properly.

If go us with our magnum $150 range and super and miss the first shot. Where I hit? About seven inches from the bottom.

The lace of Queen Anne me for the first time? Hmm.

My finder to long distance, said 600 yards. My 50-grain ball moves to 3 800 fps. I will take on the second point of mil. It can run.

n Will Orndoff of Graysville and Fred Carper Washington put together a long-range big game rifle. It will be built on a Howa action with a canon Shillen and Bekl & Carlson stock with aluminum bedding block.

Half-minute accuracy is guaranteed, and the rifle will be lined with far-reaching long-term Huskemay.

For more information, call Orndoff 724 428 4017.
